The Ask-anything bar

The Ask-anything bar sits at the top of every screen in the app, ready to search the literature, look something up in a patient's chart, or hand a task to the agent — no matter where you are.

Open it from anywhere

• Press Cmd-K (Mac) or Ctrl-K (Windows) from any screen to jump straight into the bar.
• Type your question and press Enter, or click the arrow button, to ask it.
• Press Escape to close the answer panel.

Tip: You don't need to open a patient's chart or the Evidence room first — the bar works the same from the dashboard, the live charting screen, or anywhere else in the app.

What you can ask

Ask it almost anything relevant to your day, for example:

• Clinical questions answered from the medical literature — "What are the current antibiotic-prophylaxis guidelines?"
• Questions about the patient you currently have open — "When was this patient's last hemoglobin reading?"
• Quick lookups like "What appointments do I have today?" or "Show me recent clinical notes"
• Tasks you want the agent to carry out in your practice software

How it differs from the Evidence room

Asking from the bar doesn't take you to a new page. The answer streams into a panel that drops down directly beneath the bar, so you can keep working while you read it.

When you're ready to see the full conversation, click Expand in the panel's header.

Note: Expand moves the whole conversation into the Evidence room — or into your Tasks list, if what you asked for was something to be done rather than a question to answer.

The answer in the panel reads exactly like the one you'd see in the Evidence room: key points first, followed by numbered citation chips you can click to jump straight to the source they came from. Below a finished answer you'll often see a short list of follow-up questions — up to three — that you can click to ask right away.

The suggestion chips beside the bar

While you're charting, the bar surrounds itself with suggestion chips — questions and tasks Rebrief thinks you might want, based on what's being said in the appointment. Each chip carries one of three icons, so you can tell at a glance what clicking it will do:

• Globe — answered from the medical literature
• Clipboard — answered from this patient's chart
• Cursor — something the agent would carry out in your practice software

Hover over the bar when it's showing one of these suggestions, and a hint tab names which of the three kinds it is. Once a chip's answer is ready, it gets a yellow outline — click the chip to reopen that answer without asking again.

AI credits

The corner of the answer panel shows how many AI credits you have left for the current period. See the dedicated credits article for how the count works and what happens if you run low.
