Dictation mode

Dictation mode gives you a verbatim way to get your own words onto the page. Nothing you say in dictation is rewritten by AI — it's typed out exactly as spoken, with spoken punctuation converted for you.

Open a dictation pad

1. During an appointment, open + Create on the note's tab bar.
2. Choose New dictation.
3. A new tab opens with a blank pad. While that tab is on screen, the scribe dictates into it.

Leave the tab — switch to the note or any other tab — and the scribe goes back to whatever it was doing before. You can also set the mode by hand; your choice always wins over what the tab does automatically.

What lands where

• Everything you say while the dictation tab is open goes into the pad exactly as spoken — this is your verbatim record.
• Each finished sentence is also handed along to the appointment's note, so the note still reads what you said.
• You can type directly into the pad too — corrections by hand work just like typing anywhere else.
• The pad saves itself as you go and stays with the appointment, so you can come back to it later.
• Use the pad's own Copy and PDF buttons to export it separately from the note.

Spoken punctuation

Say the punctuation and it's written for you:

• period / full stop, comma, colon, semicolon
• question mark, exclamation point
• new line, new paragraph
• open/close parenthesis, open/close quote ("unquote" also closes a quote)
• hyphen / dash

Sentences flow together and capitalize automatically after a full stop or a line break.

Tip: Dictate your headings too — "assessment colon new line" starts a new labeled section. Or start from a template and dictate the details under each heading.

Fixing a mistake

Say "scratch that" (or "delete that" / "undo that") to remove the last thing you dictated. If you've already edited that text by hand, the command safely does nothing instead of deleting something else.

What stays on, what turns off

While you're on the dictation pad:

• Stays on: asking Rebrief a question ("Rebrief, …") — the answer doesn't land in the pad; safety alerts; and the end-of-appointment accuracy pass, which never rewrites your dictated words because they're protected as something you wrote yourself.
• Turns off: voice charting (the tooth chart won't move while you're on the dictation tab — leave the tab to chart by voice) and automatic template selection (pick a template from the chip on the note's own bar instead).

Note: Dictation is a great way to speak an assessment or plan in your own words while the note itself keeps building from the conversation as usual.
