AI credits

2 min read

AI credits are the one allowance that covers everything Rebrief's AI does for you — asking a question, generating a document, rebuilding a note, or handing a job to your practice software. Your plan includes a set number each billing period, and the count refills automatically when the period renews.

What spends a credit

A credit is drawn down whenever you ask the AI to do something for you, including:

  • Asking a question and getting a cited answer
  • Generating a document or form
  • Rebuilding or regenerating a note
  • Handing a task off to your practice management software

Note: This replaced the old per-question limit. There's no cap on how many turns a conversation can take anymore — only the monthly credit allowance matters.

Where you see your balance

  • The Ask panel shows a small count beside a star icon in the corner. Point at it to see how many credits are left out of what your plan includes.
  • The appointment header docks the same count in its own corner while you're charting, so it never floats over the chart.
  • A quiet chip appears whenever AI work is running, showing what's been used just now and how many credits remain.

If your plan has no credit limit, none of this is shown — there's nothing to track.

As your credits run low

  • At 70% of the month's credits used, you'll see a short notice.
  • At 90%, another notice appears, pointing you to billing so you can upgrade or top up before you run out.
  • Once credits are used up, work that runs on its own (like background agent tasks) pauses until your billing period renews. Anything you ask for directly is refused, with a message telling you the month's credits are used up and where to top up or upgrade.
