Updates and notices in the Windows app

4 min read

The Windows app is Rebrief installed on a Windows computer. Clinics connect their practice software through it. It keeps itself up to date, and it tells you what's going on with small cards in the bottom-right corner of the window.

Cards in the corner

Notices stack as cards in the bottom-right corner. Most close with their ×. You may see these:

  • Scribe · Transcribing, while an appointment is being transcribed and you're on another page. It shows the last words transcribed, with Open and End.
  • New version or Update ready, when there's an update. More on these below.
  • Rebrief Bridge updated, once, after the Windows app updates. It lists what's new.
  • A reply from Rebrief support to a report you sent.
  • Chart reading, while Rebrief reads patients' charts from your practice software. It has Stop.
  • Your clinic's monthly allowance. A card comes when agent credits reach 70 % and 90 %, and when they run out. Transcription gets one at 80 %, at 90 % and when it runs out.
  • A notice when part of Rebrief isn't working as it should.

On an allowance card, See plans shows your options. Not now closes that card for the rest of the month on this computer.

While Rebrief is transcribing

While an appointment is being transcribed and another window is in front, a small tab shows at the top of your screen. It has the patient's name, the time and End. Without a patient, it says Transcribing and the time.

If no speech is coming through, the tab says Check mic input and why, such as No sound coming in.

Bring Rebrief back to the front and the tab goes away.

Closing Rebrief during an appointment

If you close the window while an appointment is being transcribed, Rebrief asks first. It says the appointment stops and its note won't be written. Select Keep transcribing to stay, or Close anyway.

If Rebrief is still finishing an appointment, it asks the same way, with Keep Rebrief open and Close anyway.

How the Windows app updates

The Windows app updates itself overnight. It installs the new version and opens again by itself. It waits until nothing is being transcribed, no task is running on screen, and nobody has used the computer for a couple of minutes.

So leave the computer on with Rebrief open at night. If it's off overnight, use Update now during the day.

During the day, a New version card says Rebrief closes for a moment and opens again by itself.

  • Update now starts the update. An Updating Rebrief window shows the progress. It takes a few minutes, then Rebrief reopens by itself.
  • Later hides the card for four hours. The overnight update still happens.

If you select Update now while an appointment is being transcribed, nothing closes. The card says Keep going. Rebrief will update by itself when this appointment ends. The update starts a couple of minutes after transcribing stops.

You can also update from the small print at the bottom of a page. It shows your version, and Up to date when you have the newest. When a newer one is out, Update now sits beside it.

After an update, a Rebrief Bridge updated card shows once, with what's new. The part of Rebrief that works in your practice software updates on its own too. It may show an Automation engine updated card.

Updates to Rebrief's pages

Rebrief's pages update more often than the Windows app. When a new version is live, an Update ready card says it loads the next time you open a page. Select Refresh now to load it now, or keep working.

In the Windows app, Rebrief also loads it by itself during a quiet break, once nobody has used the computer for 15 minutes.

The card and the automatic reload both wait while an appointment is being transcribed. They also wait while End is finishing, or while a note goes to your practice software.

If a card says Rebrief was updated, part of the page needs the new version. Select Reload.

What's new

When something you use every day changes, Rebrief shows a short What's new window once. It never opens while an appointment is being transcribed. Select Got it to close it.

To see it again, open Settings, then Help & tips under Learn & help. Beside What's new, select Show me.
