How Rebrief works

When you talk during an appointment, Rebrief listens and works out what you meant. It turns that into two things at once, a clinical note and an updated chart. Everything is saved inside your clinic's own workspace.

Listening

Once an appointment starts, Rebrief listens to the room. That includes you, your patient and anyone else present. The header reads Transcribing, with a running clock, while it listens. Pause stops listening without ending the appointment.

Understanding

Rebrief turns what you say into findings, such as "crown on 24". Short, familiar phrases chart right away. Longer or unusual phrasing takes a moment more, because Rebrief works out what it means first.

Charting

When you name a tooth and what you found, the chart updates that tooth. Probing numbers fill the perio chart once you start charting. To start, say "start charting", click a tooth, or press Charting in the charting card over the chart. A soft tone confirms each charted finding. You can switch it off in Settings, under Notifications & sounds.

Writing

The note starts blank, with no template. As you talk, Rebrief fills the standard sections, such as findings, diagnosis, procedure and plan. Anything you type yourself is kept exactly as you wrote it. If you want a template, + Create opens a note on it as its own tab.

Saving

There is nothing to save by hand. The note and the chart save as you go.

One appointment, one row of tabs

An appointment opens as a row of tabs, with the chart beside them.

• Transcript holds the words, as they were said.
• Each note has its own tab.
• Anything else you create gets a tab too, such as a document, a form or an AfterCare summary.

New tabs come from + Create. When Rebrief has a suggestion, it appears there as a row you can select. Rebrief never creates a document or form on its own.

When you select End

Selecting End finishes the appointment. Rebrief then takes one more, careful pass over the note.

1. It transcribes the visit's audio a second time, more carefully.
2. It rebuilds the note on the Note tab from the whole visit. A note written on a template is refined in place and keeps its headings.
3. It adds clinical facts that were said but missed, and fixes words that were misheard.
4. It writes work done today as done, and work only discussed as planned.
5. It restores a "no" that the live note dropped, such as "no vertical root fracture".
6. It removes lines about someone other than the patient, and plans for work you then did.

Your own typing is kept word for word through all of this. While Rebrief works, the note's tab shows a turning mark. A green check appears when the polished note lands. End also opens + Create once, in case the visit needs a document.

Three reviews then run side by side.

• The chart. Rebrief checks each item charted today against what was said. It can mark an item as done today, planned or already there. It can add surfaces you said that the chart missed, and a restoration done today that it missed. It can mark a tooth taken out today as missing. It can also remove an item charted from words that were not about a tooth. Items brought in from your practice software are never changed.
• The medicolegal check. Rebrief checks the note on the Note tab. It offers up to three faded lines a records reviewer would expect. Add or Skip each one.
• Sources. Sentences in the note link back to the words said. Click into a linked sentence and select its Source button to see them.

Rebrief keeps the transcript and the note. It deletes the audio once End has transcribed it.

Tip: You can still change anything afterward. Highlight words in the finished note and tell Rebrief what to change.
