Follow-ups after each appointment

4 min read

When an appointment ends, Rebrief reads the final note and lists what your practice still needs to do. The app calls these follow-ups tasks. You find them on the appointment's Tasks tab and on the Tasks page.

Follow-ups come from the note, so every plan has them.

What Rebrief writes

Each follow-up is one thing the note says still needs doing. Examples are booking the next visit, sending a referral, ordering X-rays or chasing a lab case.

  • Rebrief looks only for what's left to do after the appointment.
  • Each follow-up quotes the words in the note it came from. Rebrief drops any it can't match to the note.
  • When the note gives a time, such as "recall in 6 months", Rebrief sets a due date from it.
  • An appointment gets up to 8 follow-ups. If the note leaves nothing to do, it gets none.

Read each follow-up before you act on it.

If you resume an appointment and end it again, Rebrief adds only the follow-ups it doesn't already have.

On the appointment's Tasks tab

Every appointment has a Tasks tab near the end of its tab row, just before + Create. Its number counts the open follow-ups.

  • To do lists the open ones.
  • Tick the box to mark one done. Tick it again to reopen it.
  • Done folds away the finished ones. Select it to show them.
  • Add task opens a line at the foot of the list. Type your follow-up and press Enter. Esc cancels.
  • Double-click a follow-up to change its words.
  • The ⋯ menu holds Edit, Due today, Due tomorrow, Due in a week, No due date and Delete.

While the appointment runs, the tab says Rebrief will write the follow-ups when it ends. Right after End, it shows Writing tasks from the note….

If an ended appointment has none, Write tasks from the note asks Rebrief to read the note again.

All tasks at the top of the tab opens the Tasks page.

The Tasks page

Select Tasks in the left rail. On a phone, it's under More.

The page lists every follow-up in one table, with Status, Task, Appointment, Created and Due date.

  • To do, Done and All choose which follow-ups show.
  • Mine shows follow-ups from the appointments you ended, and the ones you added.
  • Everyone shows the whole clinic's, each labelled with whose it is.
  • Search tasks and patients… finds a follow-up by its words, the patient or the appointment. Press / to jump there.
  • Select Created or Due date to sort. The soonest due comes first to start with.

A follow-up past its due date shows in red, with Overdue and the date.

Work with a follow-up

  1. Tick the box to mark it done.
  2. Select a row to open it in place. It shows the note's words it came from, a Due date you can set, and the appointment.
  3. Select the appointment to open its Tasks tab.
  4. Select the row again, or press Esc, to fold it away.

The ⋯ menu at the end of each row holds the same choices as on the appointment.

Add your own

  1. Select New task.
  2. Type it on the new line and press Enter.

A follow-up you add here belongs to no appointment. Its Appointment column reads Your own.

Hand a follow-up to Rebrief

Rebrief can do a follow-up for you in your practice software. This needs a paid plan and the Windows app on a clinic computer. The Windows app is how a clinic computer connects Rebrief to your practice software.

  1. On the Tasks page, point at the row and select Hand to Rebrief. It's also in the ⋯ menu.
  2. Rebrief starts a chat with the follow-up as the request, and gets to work.
  3. The row then says where the chat stands: Rebrief is on it, Rebrief needs you or With Rebrief. Select it to open the chat on Home.

Rebrief takes one hand-off at a time. It never ticks the follow-up off. You do that once the work is done.

On Home

Home's Tasks tile, under Pick up where you left off, shows how many follow-ups are open or overdue. Open it to see the open ones, soonest due first.

  • Tick the box to mark one done.
  • Select a follow-up to put it in the prompt bar as a request to Rebrief.
  • The arrow at the end of the row opens it on the Tasks page.
